New record for the Wish Tree Campaign: Scouts compete with Santa Claus
In 2021, we concluded with a very special tradition - the annual Wish Tree Campaign. Every year, we at Scout24 use the pre-Christmas season to bring joy to children who live in or are supported by social institutions in Berlin. Most recently, we supported the Blindenhilfswerk e.V. and with it the Johann-August-Zeune Schule for blind or visually impaired students, the Berlin children's home Elisabethstift, the Kinder- und Jugendhilfe Lichtenrade and the SchutzengelWerk Berlin.
We usually put up a big Christmas tree - the Wish Tree - in our office building in Berlin and decorate it with lots of wish lists. On the creatively painted cards are the small and big Christmas wishes of the children. Afterwards, each employee has the opportunity to take a card from the tree and make the wish on it come true. But in 2021 our Christmas tree remained empty. Since the safety of our employees is paramount, we conducted the Wish Tree Campaign 2021 100% digitally. But that was no obstacle: A total of 265 wishes could be fulfilled by our employees in December, setting a new record for Scout24.
This year we were even able to hand over some gifts to the children ourselves. Nicola Markwardt, Junior Sustainability Manager at Scout24, was able to attend the Christmas party of the Blindenhilfswerk. After several children from the Zeune School for the Blind in Steglitz had diligently recited Christmas poems, the well-deserved gifts were handed over. For a little snack, waffles and children's punch were served afterwards in the bright sunshine. On the very large and idyllically calm area of the Blindenhilfswerk is beside the Johann August Zeune School for the Blind also a compound with apartments, in which blind and nearly blind people live independently at the age between 30 and 93 years. The aim of the Blindenhilfswerk is to develop the site in the coming years to allow for more exchange and encounters.

Also in the upcoming year, we at Scout24 will carry out our traditional corporate volunteering activities, such as the Social Summer, the Berlin Social Academy and, of course, the next Wish Tree campaign. In addition, we are working on a few new ideas to further promote social commitment at Scout24.
